Perhaps you’ve come to this post thinking of popular Canadian actor, Michael Cera: star of the hit 2007 film “Juno.”
But, alas, think again. We’re not here to discuss that Michael Cera. We’re talking about our very own MLHS student, Michael Cera (’26), who would like to share with you all his vision of a perfect fall aesthetic.
MLHS Michael Cera’s Fall Aesthetic
A crisp breeze gently caresses your face as a shade of pink accentuates your cheeks. You hear the melodious rustling of tree branches, comparable to a sort of natural white noise. You tilt your head towards the idyllic forest of warm colors, and the yellow leaves seem to meld together, lacking any definitive outlines. Walking around, you hear the crunching of dry leaves beneath your feet.
This is only a small glimpse into the comforting scenes that the fall season can provide! Personally, fall is my favorite season; I start looking forward to it as early as late August! The spooky vibes in October with cute decorations in front of houses create an atmosphere like no other, which generally can only be found in those few months of the year. So, I have compiled some oddly specific things that complete MY fall aesthetic!
For those who don’t know, an aesthetic is a unique style of beauty that evokes happiness in any individual. It could be defined by a certain mood, scents, color, etc. In the end, an aesthetic is composed of whatever fits that mood for someone, and sometimes there can be tiny details that really complete it!
#1 Getting up early to do work on the porch during an autumn morning
Waking up on a weekend at the same time that you do on a school day already sets up your day to be productive. However, when this rare (for me at least, because I have a PhD in procrastination) occurrence lands on a fall weekend, the feeling is amplified. There is something special about working semi-outside in the cool weather with a Laker blanket covering the couch, knowing that you have made a great decision to lighten your own load on your own accord. For me, doing homework on the weekend used to be an anomaly, its likelihood comparable to finding enjoyment in trigonometric functions. However, as a rejuvenated junior, I now look forward to being productive! If you are struggling to find motivation in your work, try challenging yourself by waking up earlier and enjoying the fall atmosphere while being productive at the same time! (This also goes well with music!)
#2 Windchimes
Windchimes are interesting. Their songs seem to occur at the most pristine of moments, supplementing a windy fall day with extra emotions. At times, wind chimes feel bittersweet. Sitting on my porch next to my neighbor’s house, it is likely that chimes will resonate with slow gusts of wind. They seem to only sound when necessary as if sensing your mood. The chimes divert attention away from whatever troubles occupy your conscience, allowing you to dissociate from reality and embrace a moment of solitary introspection. At the same time, the chimes can evoke happy feelings from the past, resurfacing memories in which homework didn’t occupy full weekends. When paired with a soothing wind and the rustling of tree branches, wind chimes always compliment autumn days.
#3 Animal Crossing
During 2020 especially, Animal Crossing New Horizons became an important part of fall for me. Playing the game, even in late August before work, was so soothing. Relaxing on the couch and messing around with outfits in the evening was such a highlight. I even changed the date on my Nintendo Switch in September just so I could have access to fall decorations! My neighbor, brother, and I would always set up the old Hitachi TV on our porch with an extension cord, hook up or switch, and make outfits or decorate our houses in Animal Crossing together. The feeling of community and excitement that came with playing the sandbox game with friends during the fall felt like an escape, and even an event to look forward to. I genuinely become excited when I get to play the game with that group because we developed it into a sort of tradition around this time of year. Here are some outfits I made in Animal Crossing for fall:
My Final Thoughts
Even though the leaves seem to be falling much quicker than last year, the autumn mood still persists. And even though I don’t have as much time to do fall activities as I have in years passed, it still evokes comfort and happiness. Fall is very important to me, and every year my excitement for the season increases more and more :).
