This past weekend, two top women’s Division I college lacrosse teams came to Mountain Lakes and attracted hundreds from around the state. Ohio State University and the University of Southern California (USC) made the trek after the game was set up by Lindsey and Jen Munday. The sisters were previously stellar lacrosse players for Mountain Lakes and are now coaching the sport. In her year away from coaching the varsity girls lacrosse team at Mountain Lakes, Jen Munday was able to organize the event between the two schools. Numerous, different high school lacrosse teams were in attendance only adding to the exciting atmosphere of the match.

The game turned into a shootout as both teams relied on their offense. The Trojans fell into an early 2-0 hole, but recovered quickly and went into the half with a 7-3 lead. USC would start right where they left off in the second half quickly adding to their lead. By the end, the Trojans had amassed a 9 goals lead and defeated the Buckeyes by a score of 16-7.

All in all the Trojans were powered by a formidable scoring trio. Michaela Michael scores 6 while Kylie Drexel and Gabby McMahon each added 3 goals.

The Mountain Lakes girls and boys lacrosse teams will look to have strong seasons this year as they both bring back key players from last year. The girls won the Morris County Championship last year, while the boys were champions of Group 1 in 2016. Be sure to support our lacrosse teams as the seasons heat up!
