Read Time:3 Minute, 12 Second

Picture this: a student attending Mountain Lakes High School running up to the side door at 8:03 A.M. Now, usually, when you see this scene unfold as you watch from a classroom window, you’d probably be thinking to yourself, “Aw that stinks, but it’s kind of their own fault; they should have woken up earlier…” or, maybe if this person was you the day before, “I can definitely relate to that… now they have to go to the front office… oh well.”

But what if that unnamed student ran up to the door with a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee in one hand and an iPhone 7 in the other? Personally, I would immediately think, “Wow. I give that person so much respect. They fought an internal battle with themselves this morning, trying to wake up earlier than usual to get to Dunkin’ and back in time for first period.” Now this is a very extreme example that actually happens a lot more often than you think. Please, let me go on.

As I walk down the hallway at 8:07 A.M., knowing that I am going to be marked late, I see a group of kids slowly walking down the main hallway, all of them with large iced vanilla coffees. When I pass them I think to myself, “That’s the top. Right there. Can you get any cooler than that?”

This thought pops into my head for many reasons, one of which is that I have tried multiple times to get up earlier than usual and make it to a certain coffeehouse chain and back to school in time for first period, and it has never once worked out in my favor. So I guess you can say I envy them, just a tad.

One day during PARCC week, the week right before April break, I decided that I would go to Dunkin Donuts before school. If everyone else can get up and get there and not be late to school, then so can I, right? WRONG. I told my mom before I went to bed that she had to drive me there in the morning, and when she said okay, I changed my alarm clock from 6:30 to 6:00. I made my first mistake immediately upon waking up… I hit snooze and slept until 6:20.

When I actually got up, at 6:25, I got ready, ate breakfast, and got dressed. I was ready at 7:25. My mom told me to take the dog out before we left, so I took my dog outside and came back in at 7:30, when all my hopes came crashing down. My mom then told me that it was too late to go and that we should just try again the next morning. I was not about to lose another 20 minutes of sleep to a faulty system, so the next morning I bribed my friend, and she did indeed get up, get to Starbucks, and get back to school in time. However, that day I was late just getting to school. Just my luck!!!!!!! LOL (laugh out loud).

I am nearing the end of my article now and would like to remind my haters that this is just my personal opinion on people bringing drinks to school. Hopefully in the near future you will see me walking down the hallway, maybe even at 7:50 (that’s a reach), carrying my venti Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher from Starbucks or a medium iced vanilla coffee from Dunkin. I made sure to give my exact orders just in case anyone reading this article wants to get me a drink since I am incapable of getting up early, which probably won’t happen until kids start ordering milkshakes from Weenies right to the school. Oh wait.
