Lillian Xie, sophomore, decided to join football as the only girl on the team this year. Below are a few questions that I’ve asked about her experience along with her answers.

Lilian Xie, #47

Jessica: Why did you decide to join football this year?

Lillian: I joined because I wanted to challenge myself. Originally, it was a joke and I didn’t take it seriously. However, during pre-season and the actual season, I was actually striving to play. After joining, I figured out that I really have a passion for the sport, spirit and the team!

Jessica: Since you were the only girl on the team, how did it make you feel?

Lillian: At first, during pre-season I was extremely nervous and scared. During the first weight room practice, I was shaking because of how nervous I was. However, thanks to Coach Fusco and extremely kind individuals, I soon felt welcomed by the team. By the end of the season, I soon felt at home.

Jessica: Is there anyone you want to shout out specifically?

Lillian:  I would like to specifically give a shout out to Daniel Dippold, Aiden Ambrosiani, Tristan Forrest, Adam Lees, all the coaches, and my friends and family who have supported me throughout my season.

Jessica: How did you feel before a game?

Lillian: Before a game, I usually felt extremely nervous. During Varsity games, I was excited but also anxious about the outcome. However, as the season progressed, I learned to trust my teammates and that they would definitely give their best effort no matter what, so I was able to feel much more relaxed.

Jessica: Are you going to continue for the remainder of your high school career?

Lillian: Yes, I will be continuing for the rest of high school. I hope to push myself to work harder and get better. I also want to contribute more to the team than I have this year.

Jessica: Any final words you want to say?

Lillian: Another shout out to the team captains: Cade Schuckman, Ryan McLaughlin and Timmy Christ.
