Read Time:2 Minute, 10 Second

Every year when May rolls around I get psyched for the Met Gala. When the theme of Garden of Time was announced I knew celebrities like Rihanna and Blake Lively would absolutely serve on the carpet; however, with their absence, this year’s met gala was ultimately disappointing. With that being said, here are the best and worst dressed of the Met Gala.

The Best Dressed!

Tyla in Balmain

Tyla understood the assignment. Wearing a body-molded and tailored-to-perfection dress, she perfectly fits the theme, nodding to “sands of time” in both the texture of her dress and her hourglass-shaped handbag. If I had to award an attendee of this year’s Met Gala to be best dressed, it would be Tyla.

Taylor Russell in Loewe

Taylor Russell made her Met Gala debut and boy did she serve. Wearing a Loewe look featuring a 3-D-molded bodice and draped white skirt, she looks amazing in this ensemble. The wood grain on the bodice to the draped white skirt, this outfit is beautiful.

Anok Yai in Swarovski

Anok Yai always slays the Met Gala and this year was no different. Wearing an ombre catsuit covered in Swarovski crystals she looks effervescent. In addition to her outfit her makeup is gob-smackingly gorgeous.

The Worst Dressed

Ayo Edebiri in Loewe

I really wanted to like this one. It looks pretty from the waist up but this could have been styled so much better. Her makeup is not flattering and way too pink, and as soon as that skirt transitions to color the whole effect is ruined.

Nicki Minaj in Burberry

Although the construction is nice, this dress feels too safe and underwhelming for the Met Gala. Nicki, who usually comes in beautiful extravagant dresses, did not step up this year and the color is not flattering on her at all.

Josh O’Connor in Loewe

While I am happy that Josh O’Connor went for it on this carpet, this outfit is just plain weird. The outfit gives a mix of the penguin from Batman while also making him look like a clown. I mean come on, the flower shoes just ruin the whole outfit.

Lea Michele in Rodarte

First off, why is Lea even attending the Met Gala? She has never been a fashion icon and this dress furthers that point. Pregnancy reveals aside, the tulle around her arms and her train look cheap and the color is a complete eyesore. In addition, her dress does nothing to further the theme of the garden of time besides little flowers on her dress.
