Have you ever walked down the endless water bottle aisle at Target, unable to make a decision? With so many different brands, color combinations, sizes, and prices, which one is the BEST water bottle? Lucky for you, I’ve done some research and experiments to figure out which water bottle earns the title of ‘best on the market’! (The constant for this experiment is 24 oz water bottles across all brands)

Price

While all are relatively similar, the Zak tumbler takes the cake for the money category. The Hydro flask comes in at the highest at almost $40, making the Zak tumbler a considerable $17 cheaper while Owala and Stanley fall in the middle.

Owala: 29.99
Stanley: 35.00
Zak: 22.99
Hydro Flask: 39.95

Color Options

Taking the lead for this category is the very well-known Stanley, although it’s important to note that due to only comparing the 24oz cups produces different results than if you compared entire websites. Owala does a nice job of combining fun colors into multiple designs, while Stanley and Hydro Flask tend to stick with a colored base and black top. Zak brought the fun with a few cute patterns although it might appeal to a younger market.

Owala: 22 colors
Stanley: 23 colors
Zak: 6
Hydro Flask: 21

Temperature

I started by filling each 24-ounce water bottle with 8 ounces of water and 3 ice cubes each, so they all became 32° to start the experiment. I left them on the counter for 12 hours, with no opening the bottles and no purposeful temperature changes in the room. The Owala pulled through keeping the water the coldest, while the Zak tumbler hit 40°.
Owala- 32 → 35
Stanley- 32 → 38
Zak 32 → 40
Hydro Flask 32→ 37

Durability

I asked a few people who own each type of waterbottle about the durability, and here is the result:

Owalas are pretty sturdy unless dropped very frequently or from a large height. The one downside to them is they can get dirty pretty fast due to the material of the top, so cleaning is necessary.

Hydro flasks, across the board were said to dent very easily, but even after denting, they can still work pretty well.

Unfortunately, I could not find anyone who owns a Zak bottle, but the one I have at home has lasted almost 5 years with little damage, although the color has faded quite a bit.

Stanleys are pretty durable, although the main comment on them is that the most popular version is extremely inconvenient to carry around.
