“I’m not even going to ask what happened…”

An Almost-One-Year Driver’s Perspective

Little-known driving tip: carry quarters in your car, kids.

Friends and family, I apologize, but you will not be receiving any presents this holiday season. “Oh, why?” you ask?  Because I spent all my money on my PARKING TICKET.

Is the problem that Boonton parking rules are too difficult to understand? Yes.  Is that a lie because the real problem was that I wasn’t paying attention at all? Yes.

See, there are many sides to one story. But maybe it’s time to acknowledge that student drivers neglecting to pay attention is a really important subplot to that story…

I mean, it’s not our fault we were born into the generation of “passing the aux!” And balancing styrofoam coffee trays in our laps. And speeding so that we don’t get marked down for being late to first period.

At the end of the day, you live and you learn. I, personally, have learned not to trust parking spots because often they are lying to you when they appear to be free. You’ve gotta make these mistakes because–if we weren’t being crazy teens and making goofy driving mistakes, would we ever grow into the conservative adults that wag their fingers at us?

Don’t get me wrong, this article is not an endorsement of reckless driving. Don’t use this article against me in the New Jersey Court when you get a speeding ticket. YOU’D BETTER WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS. I’m just mixing it up from the usual Driver’s Ed talk. But really, you should listen to your Driver’s Ed teacher–not the girl who just got a parking ticket.
