Year after year, field hockey players are excited for the season to begin. They have endured a whole year of passing teammates in the school hallways with brief words of acknowledgement and a sweet smile before continuing on their way. Preseason is the time of year that MLFH unites and teammates see each other for the first time in months. The excitement is often overshadowed by anticipation of the difficult forthcoming preseason; in other words, the players forsee the intense amount of running involved.
They run, a LOT. They ache, a LOT. They fear, a LOT. But, best of all, they play, a LOT. No one on the field hockey team would suffer through preseason if she did not truly love the sport and everything it stands for. The pain will go away in time. These sufferings are all worthwhile in the end, to see the ML field hockey team succeed. However, there is so much more to joining the field hockey team than simply success.
The ML field hockey is more than just a team: it is a family of girls who would do anything for each other. Being a part of this team can make one’s high school experience unforgettable. The field hockey girls are some of the greatest people one will ever meet. In order to be successful as a team, each individual must be selfless, focused, determined, hard working, and “in it to win it.”
This past season, each member of the ML field hockey team embraced every one of these indispensable qualities. Throughout the season, each individual player grew, making the team stronger as a whole. At the end of the season, they made it to the Finals in their division, an incredible achievement. Go Lakers!
