With the current rise in COVID cases, the holidays may look a little different for everyone this year. That might mean staying home, opting out of holiday parties, traveling less, and even staying distant from grandparents or other relatives. Despite these changing times, many members of the MLHS community have found new traditions and other ways to celebrate the holidays in spite of these difficult times. If you are feeling a bit blue about the holidays, we hope this article can give you some inspiration on how to keep the merriment of the holidays alive!

Who said spending the holidays safely couldn’t be fun? Check out some ideas down below for ways to spice up family time at home:
- Zoom Meetings!
- What better way to safely connect with your family members than to zoom or facetime?
- Here are some ways you can spice up video calls with family:
- Play with the fun backgrounds and filter or have everyone come dressed as a theme ie: ugly holiday sweater, favorite holiday foods
- Have a virtual cooking competition
- Host a fun family trivia through kahoot or virtual jeopardy!
- host a scavenger hunt where players show off their finds over video. It’s a fun way to get everyone moving and laughing!
- Decorate!
- Get into the holiday spirit and deck the house wintry decorations! Put on some tunes and get working, it will leave a you with a sense of accomplishment and happiness afterwards!
- Do gift exchanges through mail this year!
- Distance has nothing on this fun way to spice up a holiday tradition. You can pick names from a random name generator and send gifts without return addresses (to keep the element of surprise). Your receiver will be overjoyed to see a package especially for them!
- Cook family recipes over Zoom!
- You can still cook beloved family recipes through zoom or face time! Set up a time for everyone to pick up the same ingredients and savor the time spent creating the meal. Last but not least, you can enjoy the meal with your family members virtually while you recollect family memories.
