Who is Jeremy Renner?
Jeremy Renner, 52, was born on January 17, 1971, in Modesto, California. He found his love of acting through drama classes as a child and has continued his passion since. Renner’s first big break was in The Hurt Locker (2008) starring as Sergeant William James and later getting nominated for an Academy Award for best actor. He also won best actor in several other award ceremonies including the BAFTA Awards. Several years after his big break, the beloved actor became part of the famous Marvel Cinematic Universe where he joined the original group of Avengers as Hawkeye. He has been featured in numerous Avenger movies since then and even stars in the Disney hit Hawkeye featuring Hailee Steinfield. Besides his MCU journey, Renner is also starring in the second season of Mayors of Kingstown (on January 15, 2023) where he plays Mike McLusky.
What do we know about his accident?
While “ringing in the new year,” as Renner’s representative shared, Renner was run over by his Sno-Cat, a machine used to plow snow that weighs nearly 14,000 pounds. Renner claims that he was plowing the snow so his family could get back home as a giant snowstorm had just hit Reno, Nevada. He was also lending a helping hand to his neighbors because they didn’t have power the day prior. When Renner got out of his Sno-Cat after kindly helping out his family and neighbors, it started rolling downhill. In an attempt to retrieve it so it would not hit his nephew, Renner tried to get back into the driver’s seat but was unsuccessful. It is then that Renner got stuck underneath his machine and had to face several traumatic injuries.
On a leaked 911 operator call, it was revealed that police and EMTs were worried about reaching the site of the accident as there was so much snow, but luckily, were able to aid Renner. When paramedics got to the site of the scene, Renner was wounded but was conscious and talking. He was then flown to Renown Regional Medical Center where he was able to receive proper medical care from professionals.
In addition, Jeremy posted two pictures on Twitter several days before the accident which revealed the heavy snow in areas near Lake Tahoe.
Renner’s Battle to Survive
When Renner first arrived at the hospital, he was immediately taken into surgery to address his blunt chest trauma and other orthopedic injuries. He later announced he was in a critical but stable condition and received the proper medical care he needed. Doctors revealed that Renner’s chest was completely crushed, his torso had collapsed, he had a brain bleed, broke over 30 bones, and had a severe leg injury.
His leg injury was so severe that there were even doubts about whether he would walk again. Amputation was heavily considered because the doctors weren’t sure if his leg could be repaired. Though with time he has been getting back to a better state in time for his birthday.
Prayers and Messages from fellow Avengers stars
Throughout Jeremy’s recovery, several of his co-stars and other celebrities have wished him well through social media. Chris Evans, co-star of Renner and Captain America in the Marvel movies, replied “Tough as nails. Love you buddy.” Chris Pratt, the actor who plays Peter Quill in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, posted, “Continued prayers your way brutha.” Jimmy Fallon, the famous talk show host, responded, “Lotsa love out there for you bud.” Finally, the Avenger Brothers, also known as the Russo Brothers, announced “Sending all of our love, brother, and hopes for a speedy recovery.” Renner mentioned how he was “overwhelmed” by the number of kind words he received and thanked all who wished him well and prayed for him throughout this physically and mentally tough situation.
