Every other year, the MLHS Music Department takes an out-of-state trip to the land of make-believe: Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This year, Mr. Price, Mr. Vallies, and 8 other chaperones brought 150 kids to Disney World. This blog will discuss the best and the worst of all the parks we visited. For all of the students who are going on the trip in two years, we hope you use this as a resource to help plan out your trip.
Some Photo Highlights of the Trip:
10 Do’s:
- Dole Whip
If you go to Disney the one thing you have to get is Dole Whip. Located in Magic Kingdom at Aloha Isle and Disney Springs, Dole Whip is a Pineapple soft-serve that transports you right to the warm sandy beaches of sunny Hawaii.
- Shooter Rides: MIB, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin:
If you ever want a fun ride to destroy your friends in, schedule times to stop by these shooter rides. Men in Black throws you right into the thick of it, shooting humongous aliens……. We don’t want to spoil it but make sure to hit the red button!
- Space Mountain:
If you’re looking for an outer space experience look no further than Space Mountain. Set in total darkness, this disorienting rollercoaster is less of a thrill ride and more of a visual journey through the galaxy.
- Escape From Gringotts
Calling all Potterheads! If you’re even the slightest fan of Harry Potter, this ride is a must-do. Located in the heart of Diagon Alley, it is a mix of a 3D experience and a rollercoaster that makes my little Potterhead heart soar.
- Butterbeer:
If you’re in Universal Studios stop by the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade to try a warm, cold, or regular glass of butterbeer (We recommend the frozen). It tastes like butterscotch candy turned into a refreshing drink. The frozen butterbeer is a slushy ice while the hot is like a butterbeer hot chocolate.
- Magic Kingdom Fireworks:
When you stay late in Magic Kingdom, watch the fireworks explode above Cinderella’s Castle as the projections move you into a world of whimsical wonder. By far the best fireworks show you will watch!
- Rise of Resistance:
Of all the rides we went on at Disney, this one by far had the longest line (excluding the Velocicoaster). However, this one was worth it by far. We don’t want to spoil it for you but everyone who went on this ride said it was life-changing.
- Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs:
If you stop by Disney Springs, go shop by Amorette’s Patisserie which has many delectable treats! My favorite dessert was the Mickey Mousse!
- Rockin’ Rollercoaster
Of all the rides in Disney, Rockin’ Rollercoaster is by far the most adrenaline-inducing. If you’re a thrill seeker, you will love this indoor rollercoaster. Sadly, this rollercoaster was temporarily closed down in January so you might have to wait a few months.
- Pirates
10 Don’ts:
- Ride closes (Aerosmith)
With so many people in the parks at one time, rides closing is inevitable. When we were in Hollywood Studios, Aerosmith was closed and many rides had two or three-hour waits.
- Velocicoaster:
Velocicoaster is a good ride, but it often has an atrociously long wait time. If you like thrilling rides, we hope you enjoy a boring three-hour wait time before you start!
- Turkey leg:
The famous turkey legs in Disney may seem like a good snack, but in fact, they have a sweet taste that is very off-putting for many foodies.
- Ratatouille:
One of the most overrated rides in Disney, this ride has an hour to two-hour wait time all day. The ride lasts about 1 minute and closes down all of the time. Many riders got stuck on the ride on the day we went to Epcot.
- Epcot Fireworks:
Sadly it is the worst fireworks show in any of the parks. You will enjoy the experience but it is always underwhelming in comparison to the Magic Kingdom light show.
- Toy Story Mania:
Toy Story Mania is very similar to Men in Black but it lacks some of the fun immersion the other has. It is sadly not as immersive and a way shorter ride. If you’re in Hollywood Studios, only go on this ride if the wait time is short.
- Big Thunder Mountain:
If you’re in Magic Kingdom, try to go on Big Thunder Mountain if the wait time is long. It is a two-minute ride but it is not as exciting as other rides in the park.
- Tower of Terror:
A great ride to go with friends in Hollywood Studios. However, the wait time is very long and the ride is not as thrilling as you would expect. You will leave the ride asking for more.
- Chocolate Frogs and Mixed Jelly Beans:
When you’re in Harry Potter World, you might run into these fun little treats. However, they are surprisingly expensive and they do not taste incredibly good. Try random jelly beans at your own danger!
- Blue and Green Milk:
Although a staple in Star Wars, the blue and green milk in Disney is highly overrated. Having an odd, off-putting aftertaste, these different kinds of milk taste exactly like any old rice milk.
