The Mountain Lakes Girls Tennis team saw a lot of change this season, with a new coach and essentially a whole new team. Despite all this change, the team prevailed after taking some time to adjust and had a successful season. The season ended with 9 wins and 5 losses.
Important Matches
Madison – The matches started off with emphatic wins from both doubles teams, Mira Sun and Connie Wang; and Shobika Prabhu and Izzie Defazio. The second and third singles put up good fights against their opponents but were unable to defeat them, which brought the overall score to 2-2. The match at first singles was almost three hours long, and Elaine Wu finally closed the match at 4-6 6-2 6-4, handing Mountain Lakes the win.
Villa Walsh – As always, first doubles Mira Sun and Connie Wang swiftly defeated their opponents at 6-2 6-0, giving Mountain Lakes a leading edge. Soon after, second doubles and third singles lost to Villa Walsh after intense matches, putting Mountain Lakes at a deficit. Fortunately, second singles, Dasha Furlender, and first singles came up with wins, giving Mountain Lakes the win at 3-2, overturning the previous defeat to Villa Walsh earlier in the season.
Parsippany Hills – On this particularly windy day, three of our positions (third singles, first doubles, and second doubles) had people subbing in for injuries or sicknesses. Although our chances were looking slim, second doubles, Jess Faz and Emily Samay, won with 6-3 6-0. Wins followed after from first singles, second singles, and first doubles (Manasvi Shah and Sophia Zhang). Connie Wang subbing in at third singles had an amazing comeback from 0-6 6-0 6-3, giving Mountain Lakes an assertive win over Par Hills at 5-0.
Kinnelon – The matches started with quick wins from both the doubles teams, giving Mountain Lakes the lead 2-0. However, first and second singles soon lost, tying the score. Manasvi Shah at third singles overcame a shoulder injury and beat Kinnelon at 2-6 6-2 6-4. Mountain Lakes was able to get revenge at 3-2 from a previous defeat to Kinnelon.
Randolph – Randolph was a team to be feared, as they were able to go up against hard-hitting teams like Chatham and Mendham. Mountain Lakes had never played Randolph in their seasons before, so no one knew anything going into the match except that it was going to be difficult to win. But one thing for certain was that the first doubles team always won, and Mira and Connie, both freshmen, did, starting off the score at 1-0. However, second doubles and second singles both lost after putting it all out onto the court. But soon after, first and third singles both had comebacks against their opponents and beat Randolph. Mountain Lakes prevailed at 3-2.
Senior Legacies
I’m going to miss playing for the team and especially playing with balls. I’m also going to miss being with the most supportive group of girls.

There is no group of girls I will miss more than my tennis team. I got the chance to get to know my wonderful partner Shobika so we could completely dominate😈😈 and laugh endlessly while we do it!! I started only two years ago- I swear the gals’ support is what kept me calm and performing to the best of my abilities. To the most overlooked ML sports team. VIVA MLGT❤️
Izzie DeFazio
I’m new to tennis and being team manager was such an experience and even though I don’t really know how to play tennis I had such a fun season 🥺
