But cat memes didn’t just become popular in recent years. The first postcards were functionally similar to today’s social media, and cat owners did not hesitate to share pictures of their funny cats. Stamps often featured cats, with pictures of cats incorporated in the postcard as well. Even Monarchs and socialites, including Queen Victoria, were famous cat enjoyers.
It doesn’t stop there, either. Those cat postcards were also part of Women’s Suffrage Movements as well. Herr says stickers feature Suffrage cats that were made, being the most in-demand stickers on the Johns Hopkins campus, having students stick them on their water bottles and computers.
