With Thanksgiving and the fall season upon us, there is an increasing number of 5Ks and other races in Mountain Lakes and other areas of New Jersey. As people see pop-ups for their local 5K many, including myself are debating on signing up, and, besides the obvious health benefits, here are my 5 reasons why you should sign up for your local 5K:
- You Can Give Back To Your Community!
Running a 5k is a great accessible way to give back to your community. Most 5Ks benefit charities and worthwhile causes with most of their proceeds getting donated. You run knowing you are helping people and doing good in the world.
- Sense of Accomplishment at the Finish!
Although 5Ks can be grueling, the pride from crossing the finish line is something you cant experience anywher else. Almost all runners, from beginner to elite, will tell you of the pure elation that comes with finishing a race and crossing that line.
- 5K is one of the shortest races!
Of all the major races, 10k, marathon, half marathon, etc.., a 5K is one of if not the shortest one. For an average runner a 5K could take only abt 25-30 which, compared to a marathon’s 4 hours, is a very doable feat.5Ks are one of the shortest races
- You Can Go From “Couch to 5k” In a Matter of Weeks!
Because a 5K is a shorter race, you really only need to train for a few weeks. Unlike marathons which takes months of long, multi-hour workouts, you can run a 5K in as short as 2-3 weeks. And, 5K workouts don’t have to be any longer than 30 minuets.
- Free Swag!
A lot of 5Ks give out swag and merch as a thank you to their runner. From post-race bananas and snacks to finisher T-shirts and medals, its nice to know that you get a reward for your hardwork. And who doesn’t like free stuff!
For anyone running a 5K, the hardest part is starting. But don’t sweat it – once you get on that line and run, it’s a breeze. So just do it, get up, and sign up for your local 5k now!
