Earth Day is a global holiday dedicated to raising awareness and demonstrating support for environmental protection. Show off your green thumb and love for nature this Earth Day by participating in Mountain Lakes’ annual Eco-Weekend.

On Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21, head on over to the Department of Public Works yard to dispose of non-recyclable and larger items as part of the semi-annual Trash Day.

Grab a few friends or family members and sign up to take part in the Community Clean-Up. Pick a local spot around town to help pick up litter and get our town looking like the pristine landscape we all enjoy living in, while helping out the Earth at the same time. Bags and gloves are available at the Department of Public Works.

While you’re at the Department of Public Works, consider picking up a rain barrel and composter for $55. Conserve resources and cut down on waste to keep Mountain Lakes an eco-friendly town.

The events don’t end there! The following weekend also has activities planned in celebration of Arbor Day, a day dedicated to caring for our trees. On Friday, April 27 at 1:30 pm at Wildwood School, Councilwoman Janet Horst will be presenting a lovely story celebrating the mighty white oak.

Bring boxes of paper that need secure destruction to the Fire Department on Saturday, April 28th, from 8 – 11 am to take part in Shredding Day. There will also be other fundraisers with all donations going to the Fire Department and the Boonton Kiwanis Ambulance Squad. There will also be a blood drive and leaf bag sale. Shredding is $8 per box and two boxes can be shredded for free with a blood donation. Leaf bags are priced 10 for $5.

Lastly, the 40th Annual Woods and Lakes Run will start from Birchwood Lake at 10 am on April 28th. All men and women over 30 (sorry, MLHS-ers!) can sign up now to participate in the 5k and 10k runs.

The wellbeing of our planet, and its inhabitants, depends on the actions of every individual. Every service, no matter how small, can make a positive impact within your community. Come participate in Eco-Weekend and visit here to learn more.
